Schedule of kick-off events

Wednesday, June 9—At 6 p.m., a 10-mile bike loop from Delaware Seashore State Park to the inlet and back will launch the opening ceremonies. The loop will conclude with an additional two-mile ride to the head of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk for the 7:45 p.m. send-off of the 18th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run. This fund-raising event costs $25 to enter and is free to spectators.

Thursday, June 10—At 1:40 p.m., the torch run commences from Legislative Hall in Dover.

Friday, June 11—At 1:20 p.m., the torch run picks up from the Wilmington Police Department in Wilmington. At 4:15 p.m., the run will continue from the Newark Police Department in Newark. At 5:15 p.m., the torch arrives at Olympic Village in Delaware Stadium on the University of Delaware campus. At 7:30 p.m., opening ceremonies for the games begins, sponsored by DuPont.

Saturday, June 12The games begin on the University campus, with more than 1,000 Delaware Special Olympics athletes competing in aquatics, bocce ball, tennis, powerlifting, softball and general athletics activities.

Special Olympics Delaware provides a year-round program of quality sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. More than 4,000 volunteers make this program possible for the 2,200 local athletes who compete in Special Olympics Delaware events.
