This years event has even more to offer since it coincides with Freshman Family Weekend on the campus. Newarks businesses, government, civic associations, nonprofit organizations, ethnic groups, artisans, politicians and flea marketers will be offering a chance to get to know them better and have a blast. On The Green, there will be activities for the kids, like scarecrow making and face painting; a fine art and homemade craft competition and sale; two stages for bands and demonstrations; information about local issues, businesses, services, parks and recreation; a bazaar and flea market filled with attic treasures and surprises; and a food court with an ethnic flavor. Main Street businesses will be open and offering dining and retail specials. On the Academy Building lawn, there will be an exhibit of art cars, live entertainment, a sidewalk chalk festival and more activities. This year, the Newark Shopping Center will host mini motos and entertainment, and the Market East Plaza will offer its weekly farmers market with fresh fruits and vegetables. Newark Community Day is coordinated by the city of Newarks Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with UD, Christina School District, Downtown Newark Partnership and the Newark Arts Alliance.
