UD hosts music educators' workshop

4:20 p.m., Aug. 14, 2003--“General Music Day,” a daylong workshop, brought together about 20 Delaware elementary school music teachers on Wednesday, Aug. 13, in UD’s Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Organized by Karen Rotz, a general music teacher in the Colonial School District and general music chairperson of the Delaware Music Educators Association, and Suzanne Burton, assistant professor of music education at UD, the event provided a forum to share tried-and-true classroom activities. Guests included Debra Hansen of the Delaware Department of Education and Deb Engel of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra.

The event, for which participants received professional development credits, featured interactive sessions that included singing, playing instruments, composing, improvising, listening, multicultural music and movement.

“We anticipate that this will become an annual summer gathering, held before the school year begins,” Burton said.
