Blue Hen men’s soccer falls to Iona College

3:56 p.m., Sept. 29, 2003--The University of Delaware men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Iona College on Sunday in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Iona's Sheu Fortunato found the back of the net at 77:27 off an assist from Nicolas Smaldone to lead the Gaels over the Fightin’ Blue Hens.

In goal, UD junior co-captain Kyle Haynes notched four saves in the loss.

Iona outshot Delaware 16-9 while the Blue Hens held the advantage on corner kicks 6-3.

Delaware (3-4-2) now begins Colonial Athletic Association play.

The Hens will take on Virginia Commonwealth University at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, in Richmond. VCU is 5-3 and earlier in the season was nationally ranked.
