March 3, 2004--First Lt. Adam G. Mooney, 28, of Cambridge, Md., who was commissioned through UD’s Army ROTC program in 2000, died Jan. 25, while on a search and rescue mission in Iraq.

A graduate of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, he was the number one cadet graduate of UD’s program and, as a Distinguished Military Graduate, was in the top 10 percent of all national commissionees.

He served in the Army’s Third Squadron, 17th Calvary, 10th Mountain Division, which went to the Middle East last October.

Lt. Mooney was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Air Medal.
