Lecture examines media, racial stereotypes

1:57 p.m., Jan. 9, 2004--“Shadow Boxing: Race and Representation in Visual and Print Media” will be the topic of a lecture by Carol Henderson, associate professor of English at UD, at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 18, in Morris Library’s Class of 1941 Lecture Room.

Part of the Scholar in the Library Series, Henderson’s lecture will examine ways in which print and visual media stereotype African Americans and also will propose various ways in which African Americans can oppose offensive images.

After the lecture, Henderson will sign copies of her book, “Scarring the Black Body: Race and Representation in African American Literature,” which was published in November 2002 by the University of Missouri Press.

The lecture is free and open to the public and brown bag lunches are welcome. For more information, call 831-2231.
