Hen men’s basketball hosts UNC Wilmington tonight

Harding Nana scored 13 points in the loss to Old Dominion.
11:27 a.m., Feb. 16, 2004--The University of Delaware men’s basketball team will host the University of North Carolina Wilmington in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 16, at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens will attempt to rebound from Saturday’s 85-74 loss at Old Dominion University.

With the loss, the Hens fell to 14-9 overall and 8-6 in the CAA. Including tonight’s contest, there are four games remaining in the regular season.

The CAA tournament will be held March 5-8 at the Richmond (Va.) Coliseum.

In Saturday’s game, Old Dominion’s Isaiah Hunter and Alex Loughton combined for 46 points to lead the Monarchs.

The Hens hit just one of eight shots from the three-point line and committed 21 turnovers.

Sophomore forward Harding Nana, playing for the first time in the last six games due to a shoulder injury, came off the bench to lead the Hens with 13 points and eight rebounds. Guard Rulon Washington scored 12 points off the bench, and David Lunn added 11 points.

Raphael Madera had nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds while Mike Slattery, hobbled by a knee injury, had seven assists.

Old Dominion held UD’s leading scorer and three-point shooter Mike Ames (16.6 points per game) to just six points on two of 10 shooting from the field. Ames, who entered the game shooting 45 percent from the three-point line, missed on all three of his attempts from beyond the arc.

Old Dominion also managed to stop red-hot Delaware forward Robin Wentt, the CAA Player of the Week. The junior forward hit just one of nine shots from the field and finished with four points and four rebounds.

Old Dominion improved to 15-8 overall and 10-4 in the CAA, moving into a three-way tie for first place in the conference with Drexel and Virginia Commonwealth.

George Mason is 9-5 in the conference, followed by UD at 8-6 and UNC Wilmington at 8-7.
