Lecture series celebrates mathematics 9:12 a.m., March 26, 2004--The University of Delaware will mark Mathematics Awareness Month with a series of lectures from April 5-May 4 on the Newark campus. The talks, sponsored by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, will begin with "Graphs: Why They are Fun and Why They are Useful," by Felix Lazebnik, professor of mathematical science at UD, from 4-5 p.m., Monday, April 5, in 205 Kirkbride Hall. Michael Wertheimer, a director at RABA Technologies, will talk about "Searching for Osama bin Laden in the Yellow Pages," from 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, in Multipurpose Room B, Trabant University Center. The third lecture, "Worm and Virus Propagation over the Internet," will be given by Stephan Bohacek, assistant professor of electrical engineering at UD, from 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, in 206 Kirkbride Hall. Mark Newman, assistant professor of physics and complex systems at the University of Michigan, will talk about "Rumors, Epidemics and the Internet: The Mathematics of Networks," from 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, in 209/211 Trabant University Center. The series of lectures, cosponsored by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the College of Engineering, will conclude with a talk on "Ad hoc Networking with Swarm Intelligence," by Chien-Chung Shen, assistant professor of computer and information sciences at UD, from 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, in 206 Kirkbride Hall.
