Hen hoop star Malcom is CAA Player of the Week

Tiara Malcom, CAA Player of the Week
11:14 a.m., Jan. 28, 2004--University of Delaware junior forward Tiara Malcom has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Malcom had consecutive double-doubles in conference action against George Mason and Drexel universities last week, posting double figures in both points and rebounds.

In Thursday's 71-64 loss to George Mason, Malcom became just the 10th player in UD history to score more than 30 points in a game, pouring in a career-high 31 points and connecting on two three-pointers. She had a game-high 11 rebounds while also adding four assists and three blocked shots.

In UD’s 58-57 overtime victory at Drexel on Sunday, Malcom posted her 11th career double-double with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. She hit two foul shots with 14 seconds remaining in the extra period to put the Hens ahead for good.

A first team selection in the pre-season CAA polls, Malcom leads the Hens in scoring (14.6 points per game) and is second on the squad in rebounding (7.0 rebounds per game).

She ranks in the top 25 all-time at UD in scoring (819) and in the top 20 in rebounds (501). Malcom also sits on the all-time leader board in career field goal percentage (sixth, at .478), blocked shots (eighth, with 65) and career free throw percentage (eighth, at .767).

This recognition marks the first time this season the UD women's basketball team has gained weekly recognition from the CAA. Malcom is the first Blue Hen to be honored since Allison Trapp (2000-03) was cited in March 2003.

UD (12-4, 4-3 CAA) will return to action at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, when the Hens host conference rival Towson University at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.
