Freshman Dodson wins mile at Lehigh track meet

Brad Dodson won the mile run at Lehigh.
2:49 p.m., Feb. 2, 2004--Freshman Brad Dodson captured the mile run to lead the University of Delaware men's indoor track and field team to a fifth-place team finish at the John Covert Classic Indoor Track and Field Meet held Saturday afternoon at Lehigh University's Rauch Field House.

Dodson covered the mile in a time of 4:27.28 to become UD’s lone individual champion on the day. A total of seven schools competed in the full-day event.

The UD men placed fifth in the team standings with 50 points. Host and champion Lehigh registered 220, Rider was second with 182.5, Sacred Heart was third with 56.5, Temple was fourth with 56, UD was fifth with 50 and Wagner was sixth with 38.

Lehigh also won the women's team title, compiling a total of 203 points to outdistance runner-up Rider with 133 points. Towson was fourth with 85.5 points, Wagner was fifth with 50, UD was sixth with 28 and Temple was seventh with seven.

In addition to Dodson, the UD men posted 11 top 10 finishes. Mike Yost placed third in the weight throw (43 feet, 3-1/4 inches) and was seventh in the shot put (44 feet, 7-1/2 inches), Matt Arbaugh was fourth in the pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches), the 4x400 meter relay team placed fourth (3:34.16) and Matt Moore finished fifth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:30.55.

The UD women collected eight top 10 finishes, led by pole vaulter Reagan Hastings, who took third place with a jump of 9 feet. Also for the Hens, Rachel Schultz was fourth in the 400 meters (1:02.70), the 4x800 meter relay team was fourth (10:22.55) and the 4x400 meter relay team was fifth (4:38.92).
