Delaware demographics expert lectures Feb. 27

9:30 a.m., Feb. 24, 2004--Ed Ratledge, director of the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, will look at shifting state demographics in a lecture on Friday, Feb. 27, titled “Delaware Demographic Changes and Challenges 2000-2030.”

Part of the month-long Land and Sea Lecture Series, Ratledge’s lecture will be offered at both 10 a.m. at the Virden Center at the Hugh R. Sharp Campus, 700 Pilottown Rd., Lewes; and again at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Methodist Manor House, 1001 Middleford Rd., Seaford.

Known statewide as “the answer man,” Ratledge is the person to whom municipal leaders and local politicians turn when in need of statistics and demographic information for Delaware towns and cities. From determining the number of cars that travel over a particular stretch of highway to knowing how many Delawareans contract lung cancer, Ratledge has crunched the numbers.

The Land and Sea Lecture Series is a month-long program featuring talks by members of the University of Delaware faculty. All the lectures are free and open to the public. For more information, call the Office of Alumni & University Relations at (302) 735-8200.
