UD kicks off 50th anniversary celebration for MBA Program

4:15 p.m., Oct. 2, 2003--The University of Delaware MBA Program kicked off the yearlong celebration of its 50th anniversary by announcing the first 10 of its “Lerner Fabulous 50” MBA Alumni.

For the kickoff celebration, held last month in the Delaware Field House, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a 1975 MBA alumnus and honorary chair of the MBA 50th Anniversary Advisory Committee, joined Michael J. Ginzberg, dean of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, and award-winning UD mascot YoUDee.

Highlighting the event was the announcement of the first group of the “Lerner Fabulous 50,” which honors MBA alumni who have made significant contributions to their industries and communities, are pioneers and innovators, and possess outstanding leadership and management skills. A blue-ribbon selection committee was formed to review all “Lerner Fabulous 50” nominations.

The first 10 members of the “Lerner Fabulous 50” are

  • Carper;
  • Leonard W. Quill (MBA 1958), retired CEO and president, Wilmington Trust Co.;
  • Robert L. Johnson (MBA 1955), vice president of Strategies Unlimited and UD’s first MBA grad;
  • Gary D. Pruder (MBA 1967), vice president of Oceanic Institute;
  • Mary Ellen Panousis (MBA 1983), senior executive at W. L. Gore & Associates;
  • Maurits P. Taytelbaum (MBA 1996), director of risk analysis, Hercules Inc.;
  • Linda H. Reisor (MBA 1984), director of global accounts, Computer Sciences Corp.;
  • John B. Carberry (MBA 1974), director of environmental technology, DuPont Co.;
  • Dennis G. Sheehy (MBA 1984), managing partner, technology solutions, Deloitte Consulting; and
  • Kevin P. Finn (MBA 2003), operating partner, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant.

The Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics enrolls 2,400 undergraduates and graduate students each year. Both undergraduate and graduate business programs are fully accredited by AACSB International–the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The MBA Program was established at UD in 1953.
