UDs Big Band Ensembles perform jazz Dec. 2 8:34 a.m., Dec. 1, 2003--UDs Department of Music presents its Jazz I and II Big Band Ensembles, directed by Tom Palmer, in concert at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. Special guest Andy Snitzer, a world-class jazz clarinetist, will sit in with both groups. The two big bands will perform a variety of traditional and contemporary jazz tunes, including Nostalgia In Times Square, as played by the Mingus Big Band. Also featured is vocalist Vanessa Garaio singing A Day in the Life of a Fool by Luiz Bonfa. Tom Palmer, director of Jazz Big Bands at the University of Delaware, has performed with many jazz artists including Ernie Watts, Robin Eubanks, Herb Ellis, Donald Byrd and local pianist and composer Don Glanden. Palmer has appeared at the Kennedy Center, Zanzibar Blue in Philadelphia and Wilmington, in various jazz festivals including Wilmington's Jazz in the Village, the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival and the Rehoboth Jazz Festival. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant University Center or Bob Carpenter box offices on the UD campus.
