John Antil, University of Delaware associate professor of business administration, is quoted in a Dec. 4 Associated Press story concerning DaimlerChrysler's sponsorship of a Super Bowl halftime game between women dressed only in lingerie. "This is horrendous," Antil told the Associated Press. "It is blatantly chauvinistic. You have the potential of offending a significant amount of people and what is the message? I am going to think the car is sexy or it makes me look more macho? It's a boneheaded move." Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, is quoted in a Dec. 4 Sacramento Bee story concerning the California State Teachers Retirement System, which announced it would not accept if offered a seat on the new New York Stock Exchange Board. Should other public funds be asked and accept, Elson told the Bee that "it will be a very unique opportunity. It's a good thing to have institutional representation on the board." Elson also is quoted in a Dec. 3 Wall Street Journal story concerning the battle between Herbert Denton and Eastman Kodak. ALUMNI Steve Murphy, a University of Delaware graduate who got his start in politics as a volunteer for Joe Biden's 1972 Senate campaign, is campaign manager for Dick Gephardt's presidential bid. Murphy is the subject of an interview in the Dec. 3 Christian Science Monitor. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
