Joel Best, professor of sociology, was interviewed Oct. 31 on National Public Radio's All Things Considered program concerning his study of Halloween myths. Best says that, dating back to 1958, he can find no evidence of a child being killed or seriously injured by a contaminated Halloween treat despite widespread fears among parents.
Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was a featured guest on the CNNfn Money and Markets program on Oct. 31. He discussed plans for overhauling the New York Stock Exchange board of directors.
Roger Horowitz, a labor historian in the University of Delaware Hagley Program, is quoted in a Nov. 3 Sacramento Bee story about grocery store unions in California.
ALUMNI
Heather Barrett, a teacher at Unionville High School who holds bachelor and masters degrees from the University of Delaware, has received the 2003 Academic Excellence in Economics Education Award from Economics Pennsylvania, it is reported in the Nov. 2 Philadelphia Inquirer.
Robert H. Boyles Jr., who holds a master's degree in marine policy from the University of Delaware, has been named director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Marine Resources Division, according to the Nov. 3 Charleston Post and Courier.
