10:18 a.m., Feb. 27, 2004--A roundup of recent news items about UD, its faculty, students, staff and alumni.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was widely quoted this week concerning discontent among large investors with Michael Eisner’s leadership of the Walt Disney Co. and concerning the Hollinger International case that was before the Delaware Court of Chancery. Some unhappy Disney shareholders are planning to withhold votes during next week’s annual board election, and Elson said in the Feb. 27 issue of The New York Times, "The greater the withholding of votes, the more the directors have to pay attention. Anything over 20 percent is significant. That's the key. The board will have to look at it. There's a real pro-shareholders slant that's taking place." Elson also is quoted on that topic in Feb. 27 issues of USA Today, Newsday, the Hartford Courant, the Los Angeles Daily News and the Philadelphia Inquirer. Elson is quoted in a Feb. 27 Financial Times story concerning the Hollinger International case and in a Feb. 27 Wall Street Journal story concerning the resignation of the chairman of Smith & Wesson after it was disclosed he had spent time in prison for armed robbery.
