10 employees recognized for Bright Ideas Ten ideas were selected from employee entries received between June and November. Bernard L. Dworsky, senior adviser, Water Resources Agency, Norma L. Gaines-Hanks, assistant professor of individual and family studies, would like to reduce confusion over zone parking in the Perkins Student Center parking garage by color coding the walls and pillars to indicate what type of parking is allowed in each area. Timothy Joseph Goecke, head exhibition designer at the University Gallery, wants to tell the world about UDs collections of art and cultural artifacts by having one central web page on the UD web site that provides a short introduction and link to all UD art and cultural artifact collections. Mary S. McGlynn, who recently retired as a senior secretary in political science and international relations, suggests that the OSHA "Safety on Campus" film that graduate students are required to view be shown during orientation instead of department by department, saving the University human resources, electricity and classroom usage. Rita Pennypacker, service representative in physical therapy, would like to see the University compile a cookbook of Vita Nova and Blue & Gold Club favorite recipes. Susan Phipps, administrative assistant in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, suggests using UDaily to let employees know when its time to register for parking rather then sending paper announcements. Gwen M. Robison, secretary in the MBNA Career Services Center and Charles J. Wilson, sergeant in public safety, suggest different ways of protecting drivers leaving the east exit of the Perkins Student Center parking garage from fast-moving vehicles. Robison would place a yield sign at the exit, and Wilson wants to put a mirror at the exit that would allow drivers to see oncoming traffic before they venture out into it. Carol D. Rylee, director of the Budget Office, would like employees to use the web, instead of the map and brochure that are mailed to each employee with their parking tags, to learn about parking regulations. Eunice Wellons, administrative assistant in the Academic Services Center, suggests lettering the lanes in the parking lot near McDowell Hall at the corner of North College and Cleveland avenues so that it is easier for drivers to find their cars. This years Bright Ideas reception will be held on Thursday, April 29. Winners will receive a $100 award, a Bright Ideas T-shirt and a certificate. The selection committees included Maxine Colm, vice president for administration; Richie Holland, manager of human resources; Patricia Grim, assistant to the chair of nursing and Professional Advisory Council (PAC) representative; Patti Hall, executive secretary, chemical engineering and Salaried Staff Advisory Council (SSAC) representative; Charlene Mylin, executive secretary, Information Technologies and SSAC representative; Cindy Panchisin, coordinator, vice provost for research and PAC representative; Karen R.
