Delaware ice hockey team defeats No. 1 Penn State 3:41 p.m., Nov. 17, 2003--The University of Delaware mens club ice hockey team scored a major victory Friday, defeating perennial national power Penn State University 7-1. Penn State, which was unbeaten and the top-ranked team in the American Collegiate Hockey Association entering that game, bounced back to defeat UD 2-0 on Saturday. UD is led by first-year head coach John OConnor, himself a Penn State graduate who competed for the ice hockey team. After the weekend split, UD is 8-5-2. The team will play a weekend series at West Virginia University in Morgantown on Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22. After the Thanksgiving break, UD will travel to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis for a game Friday, Dec. 5. UD will return home to face Drexel University at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Gold Arena. In the most recent ACHA poll, UD was ranked No. 10 in the nation.
