I-AA All-Star Classic adds Hens Adams, Hall

3:53 p.m., Oct. 31, 2003--Three University of Delaware football players have been selected to participate in the inaugural NCAA Division I-AA All-Star Classic, to be played Dec. 30 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and hosted by The Football Network.

Fightin’ Blue Hens free safety Mike Adams and quarterback Andy Hall were named to the team this week, joining offensive lineman Jason Nerys, who was a preseason selection.

Adams, a senior co-captain and emotional leader of the defensive unit, was having a stellar season until he broke his right fibula in the Oct. 18 game against the University of Rhode Island. He had three interceptions and 39 tackles, and had returned four kicks for 92 yards. Adams will be out until about mid-November.

Hall, a Walter Payton Award candidate, has thrown 118 completions in 184 attempts for 1,445 yards and 15 touchdowns through the Navy game. Also, he has run for 563 yards on 78 carries, scoring five touchdowns.

Nerys, a senior co-captain and All-America candidate, has led an exceptional offensive line that has enabled the Hens to throw for more than 1,600 yards and run for more than 1,900 yards.

In all, 89 senior standouts representing 13 NCAA Division I-AA conferences have been selected to participate in the All-Star game, with an additional 11 student-athletes still to be picked in November.

“We are now just eight weeks from kickoff and continue to receive great feedback from all 123 colleges represented by the 13 conferences,” Jerry Solomon, president and chief executive officer of The Football Network, said. “This is going to be a terrifically competitive game, a milestone broadcast for us, and a great showcase for these fine players.”
