Residence Life to advises students how to weather the storm
Cynthia Cummings, associate vice president for campus life, said students will be advised to remain in their buildings between Thursday morning and Friday evening, or until the storm has subsided. Dining Services is fully prepared for any eventuality and there will be plenty to eat no matter what Isabel does, Cummings said. Dining Services reports that Pencader, Russell, Kent and Rodney dining halls will remain open during normal hours of operation throughout the storm and will only limit hours if classes are canceled. Residence hall convenience stores, known as C-Stores, will be open limited hours. Everything is being done that can be done for what we can foresee and anyone who has concernsparent or studentcan contact their hall director, Cummings said. There are backup generators for each building that will keep security and fire systems working and public areas lit, but because the generators cant supply each room with electricity, students are advised to provide themselves with some form of battery-powered lighting since candles arent allowed in residence halls. Cummings said the most serious concern is the possibility of flooding in basement and first-floor rooms, so students on those floors are being asked to take belongings off the floor. Since trash will not be picked up Thursday or Friday, students are being asked to discard all trash Wednesday night. Article by Barbara Garrison |
