Hunger Awareness Day set June 3

12:03 p.m., June 1, 2004--Delaware residents will help support a hunger-free America on Thursday, June 3, with a fund-raising dinner sponsored by the Food Bank of Delaware.

Held from 5-8 p.m. at the Food Bank of Delaware in the Delaware Industrial Park, 14 Garfield Way, Newark, the “One Big Table,” event will feature guest speakers Jack Markell, state treasurer; Tyrone Jones, aide to U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.); and Joe Weingart, Food Stamp director for the Mid-Atlantic region. Representatives from local organizations, companies and charities also will be present to address the problem of hunger in Delaware and to accept awards for their efforts to combat the problem.

The dinner, which will include hors d’oeuvres and an entrée prepared by trainees in the Food Bank’s Community Training Kitchen, is expected to draw approximately 300 guests.

A minimum $5 donation is suggested, and all proceeds go toward providing meals for financially disadvantaged Delawareans. For more information, call Judy Hurd at the Delaware Food Bank at 292-1305, ext. 232, or visit [www.fbd.org].
