Delaware’s Malcom, Sailer recognized by CAA

10:37 a.m., March 10, 2004--University of Delaware women's basketball players Tiara Malcom and Julie Sailer were honored during the Colonial Athletic Association championship banquet held Tuesday night at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, Va.

Malcom was named to the All-CAA second team, and Sailer was named to the All-Academic squad, both for the second consecutive year.

Malcom leads the Fightin’ Blue Hens in scoring with 15.6 points per game and rebounding with 6.9 rebounds per game. She ranks fourth in the CAA in scoring and seventh in rebounding.

Malcom recently became the 19th player in UD women's basketball program history to score 1,000 career points.

"Tiara Malcom has had an outstanding junior year," UD Head Coach Tina Martin said. "She deserves the recognition of being on the All-CAA team."

Sailer was averaging 9.6 points and 4.4 rebounds before missing the final six games of the regular season with a stress fracture in her foot.

She has a 3.519 grade point average in elementary education and was also a College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America nominee for the second season in a row.

Cyndy Wilks of Virginia Commonwealth University was named the CAA Player of the Year. Lesley Dickinson of James Madison University was named the Rookie of the Year and Max Nhassengo of Old Dominion University the Defensive Player of the Year.

Cherie Lea of the University of North Carolina Wilmington won the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award.
