Delawares Andy Hipple wins CAA Scholar-Athlete Award
Hipple, a finance major with a 3.363 grade point average, is a deans list student and a three-time CAA Commissioners Academic Award recipient. He has served as a peer mentor with the Helping Each Newcomer Succeed (HENS) program. He is the third UD scholar-athlete to win a CAA Scholar-Athlete Award in 2003-04. Also honored were Leah Geib in field hockey and Sara Stephens in swimming and diving. A three-year starter on attack, Hipple scored 19 goals and had five assists for the Fightin Blue Hens this season, as the team went 10-5 and earned a berth in the CAA championship tournament. In addition to Hipple, CAA Scholar-Athlete Awards were presented to: Jeff Palumbo, George Mason University, baseball; Mike Larkin, Towson University, mens golf; Ann Schnell, College of William & Mary, womens golf; Laurie Bean, Drexel University, womens lacrosse; Alexis Alcantara, Hofstra University, softball; Pedro Nieto, Virginia Commonwealth University, mens tennis; Nataly Cahana, Old Dominion University, womens tennis; Chris Parsons, College of William & Mary, mens track and field; and Kelly Baker, James Madison University, womens track and field.
