UD goalkeeper Haynes is Academic All-American

11:17 a.m., Jan. 28, 2004--University of Delaware junior goalkeeper Kyle Haynes has been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic All-America regional second team.

Haynes was one of 41 student-athletes honored based on outstanding accomplishment in the classroom as well as on the soccer field. The teams were selected from all three divisions of college soccer with the East region representing schools from Maine to Florida.

A three-year starter in goal for the Fightin’ Blue Hens under Head Coach Marc Samonisky, Haynes shared co-captain duties during the fall season. He started all 18 games, had a 1.41 goals against average and made 84 saves for a .757 save percentage. He also had five shutouts as the Hens went 4-11-1 overall.

Haynes, a two-time member of the Colonial Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll, has a 3.67 grade point index. A two-time College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American nominee, he is a political science and history major with minors in philosophy and legal studies.
