Instructional grant pre-proposals due Jan. 26

12 p.m., Nov. 13, 2003--The Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE), General Education Initiative (GEI) and Information Technologies (IT) have announced a grant program for instructional and course design, and grant preparation workshops are scheduled in December and January.

Because these units share a common pool of applicants, only one application is necessary. Applicants will receive consistent feedback from a single review committee and coordinated support of funded projects.

Grants range from $2,000-$20,000 and recipients will be announced in March.

Faculty members who have an idea about incorporating technology, multimedia or a different learning method into a course are encouraged to apply for a grant. Proposals designed to advance the three General Education Goals—oral and written communication, quantitative reasoning and service-based learning—are the focus of the grant.

The application process begins with a pre-proposal. A template can be found online at [www.udel.edu/present/grant/]. If the pre-proposal is selected, a full proposal will be required. All requests will be evaluated by a committee appointed by the provost.

Grant deadlines are as follows:

  • Pre-proposal due: Jan. 26
  • Pre-proposals returned: Feb. 9
  • Final proposal due: March 15
  • Grant recipients announced: March 29

Applicants can find examples of projects funded in the past or read profiles of faculty who received funding, at [www.udel.edu/cte/grants.htm] or [www.udel.edu/present/profiles/index.html].

CTE, GEI and IT are offering two grant preparation workshops explaining the process in detail, clarifying the criteria used to select proposals and providing assistance with project planning. Faculty who are experienced in the application of the three General Education Goals will participate to help refine project ideas.

Group sessions for faculty planning to use similar methods are available.

The workshops are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2:30–4:30 p.m., 109 Memorial Hall
  • Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1:30–3:30 p.m., 116 Willard Hall Education Building

Register for either workshop online using the UD Professional Development Calendar.

The January workshop will be held in conjunction with the opening of the Winter Teaching, Learning and Technology Institute.
