Spiker leads UD golfers in Drew Upton Invitational

9:56 a.m., March 29, 2004--University of Delaware junior Dan Spiker placed seventh overall with a three-round total of 215 to lead the Fightin’ Blue Hens to an 11th place team finish at the Drew Upton Invitational hosted by Towson University on Sunday at Great Hope Golf Course.

Spiker fired scores of 74 and 69 on Saturday and finished with an even par 72 Sunday to finish at 215, tied for seventh with three other golfers over the 7,047-yard course.

Liberty University captured the team title with a score of 867, five strokes better than Towson and Rutgers in the 19-team field. UD tied with Binghamton for 11th place with a score of 897, just two strokes out of the top 10. The Hens shot a 294 in the first round Saturday and followed with rounds of 299 and 304.

UD placed three golfers in the top 30 as freshman Joe McLister placed 23rd with a score of 221 and freshman Steve Banks was 29th with a score of 224.

Also for the Hens, Chase Miller was 86th with a score of 237 and B.J. Jaworski was 97th with a score of 264.
