6:54 p.m., Dec. 6, 2003--The first snowstorm of the season did not deter UD’s Fightin’ Blue Hens from continuing their winning streak as they beat the University of Northern Iowa Panthers 37-7 at Delaware Stadium Saturday afternoon, before a crowd of 11,881 football fans.

After a delayed start while crews finished removing snow from the stadium, the Hens took charge and never looked back after establishing a 17 point lead in the first quarter.

The Hens were six for six in the red zone, scoring each time they made it within the Panthers’ 20-yard line. Delaware outgained Northern Iowa 270 to 164 yards.

After Saturday’s playoff victory, Delaware will host a semifinal game at 1 p.m., next Saturday, Dec. 13, against the winner of the contest between Western Kentucky and Wofford.

Saturday’s game marks the fifth time Delaware has advanced to the semifinals and the first time since 2000. The win put Delaware at 13-1, equaling a school record and setting an Atlantic 10 Conference record for victories in a season.
