Fightin’ Blue Hens No. 3 in NCAA Division I-AA polls

10:20 a.m., Oct. 21, 2003--The University of Delaware football team has moved up one spot to No. 3 in the new national NCAA Division I-AA polls released Monday afternoon.

The undefeated Fightin’ Blue Hens, who improved to 7-0 after a 55-10 defeat of the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, are ranked third in both The Sports Network/CSTV poll and the USA Today/ESPN poll.

McNeese State University is first and Villanova University is second in both polls. Delaware received two first-place votes in The Sports Network/CSTV poll.

Rounding out the top 10 in both polls are Southern Illinois, Massachusetts, Wofford, Western Illinois, Western Kentucky, Northern Iowa and Northern Arizona. Western Illinois slipped from the No. 2 spot after a loss to Southern Illinois.

Villanova, Delaware and Massachusetts are all members of the Atlantic 10 Football Conference. Other conference members that received votes in the polls were Northeastern, Maine, Hofstra and James Madison.
