UD field hockey to battle fourth-ranked Maryland Oct. 19

10:40 a.m., Oct. 16, 2003--The University of Delaware field hockey team will attempt to break a three-game losing streak when it battles the fourth-ranked University of Maryland at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, at College Park, Md.

The No. 15 Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 10-5 after a 4-2 loss to Lafayette College on Wednesday night in Easton, Pa.

The Hens broke out to an early 1-0 lead when junior Jessi Balmer scored at 23:24, converting a pass from Leah Geib. It was Balmer’s team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Lafayette exploded for three goals in a two-minute span to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. UD cut the deficit to 3-2 on junior Erica LaBar's seventh goal of the season at 56:12, but Lafayette scored again at 67:39.

Lafayette raised its record to 9-6. UD outshot Lafayette 18-16 and held an 11-3 advantage in penalty corners.
