Blue Hen Classic opens UD field hockey season

10:55 a.m., Aug. 21, 2003--The annual Blue Hen Classic will open the 2003 University of Delaware field hockey season, with games scheduled Aug. 30-31 at Rullo Stadium.

The Classic will feature teams from Duke, Rutgers and West Chester universities. Two Duke players, sophomore forward Katie Grant and junior back Gracie Sorbello, are members of the under 20 U.S. national team. Grant was the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year.

The opening game at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, will pit Rutgers against West Chester. The host Fightin’ Blue Hens, coached by Carol Miller, will take on Duke at 1:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 31, Duke will meet West Chester at noon, and Delaware will take on Rutgers at 2 p.m.

The 2002 Hens finished 10-10 overall and 4-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association and were ranked as high as 14th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
