Alternate parking planned for Saturday’s football game

5:45 p.m., Sept. 17, 2003--With Hurricane Isabel’s path still uncertain, preparations are being made for alternate parking during UD’s home football game against West Chester University at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20.

According to Jerry Oravitz, operations associate for athletics, the 12 parking areas normally designated for use during home games will be decreased to nine and the Chrysler production plant lot across South College Avenue from the Field House will be opened for use.

“Of our 12 designated parking areas for home games, three lots are playing fields, so we will close those off for the Saturday game,” Oravitz said.

The decision to close the field lots and make use of the Chrysler lot was made in the football operations planning meeting, which met Tuesday, Sept. 16. During the meeting, a decision also was made to cover the football field as an additional precautionary measure.

The Chrysler lot, which holds approximately 2,000 vehicles, will provide ample parking. Vehicles are charged a flat fee of $5 for the evening, and all proceeds go to United Way charities.

As an added precaution, a walk-through of the entire south athletic complex is set for 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, to ensure that all systems are working properly and allow enough time for potential troubleshooting before the game.
