Newark Police arrest man for false robbery report

2:23 p.m., March 5, 2004--Newark Police have arrested William Westbrook of Newark and charged him with falsely reporting an incident.

He told police that he was struck from behind and robbed around 7:20 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, while walking on the James Hall Trail near Phillips Park and Apple Road.

Police determined that the robbery did not occur and that he made up the story, and after Westbrook admitted it to police, he was arrested. He was processed on an Alderman’s Court 40 warrant on March 4 and released for arraignment later this month.

The incident was reported on UDaily on Feb. 12.
