MADD vigil, shoe display set April 28 1:22 p.m., April 19, 2004--A candlelight vigil and temporary installation of shoes is set for Wednesday, April 28, to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving. Cosponsored by the Delaware chapter of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and UDs Building Responsibility Coalition (BRC), the daylong event will begin at 11 a.m. on the patio outside the Trabant University Center and will conclude at dusk with a candlelight vigil. A display of approximately 250 pairs of shoes, representing those victims killed by drunk drivers in Delaware over the past five years, will be displayed on the patio green throughout the day. Representatives from the Student Alcohol Use Committee and from the Delaware chapter of MADD will staff an information table throughout the day, and family members of individuals killed by drunk drivers will give firsthand accounts of the threats posed by drunk driving. The free event will conclude with a candlelight vigil, which will be held in remembrance of victims of drunk drivers. The rain date is Thursday, April 29.
