Johnson, Hall selected in sixth round of NFL draft

Shawn Johnson
11:05 a.m., April 26, 2004--Two members of the 2003 national champion University of Delaware football team were selected in the NFL draft on Sunday.

NCAA Division I-AA All-American defensive end Shawn Johnson was selected in the sixth round by the Oakland Raiders as the 166th pick overall, and All-American quarterback Andy Hall was selected in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Eagles as the 185th pick overall.

Johnson joins two other Fightin’ Blue Hens on the roster of the Raiders, former NFL Most Valuable Player quarterback Rich Gannon and defensive back Keith Burnell, who played running back at UD.

Andy Hall
According to the Raiders web site, Johnson is viewed as a disruptive force who “attacks the outside hard with speed” and an “effective wrap-up tackler who uses his upper body power to drive through the blockers.”

With the Eagles, Hall will have an opportunity to compete for the third quarterback slot left vacant when A.J. Feeley signed with the Miami Dolphins.

According to the Eagles web site, Hall is a “well-built athlete with outstanding scrambling ability, drawing comparisons to former Delaware standout Rich Gannon for his quick feet and ability to throw on the run.”
