Newark Police investigate robbery of student

2:04 p.m., Dec. 9, 2003--Newark Police are investigating the robbery of a UD student that occurred around 1 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, at the corner of Wollaston and Kells avenues in Newark.

The student was walking northbound on Wollaston Avenue, when two men approached him and asked to use his cell phone because their car was broken down. The student gave one man his cell phone to use and was then attacked by both men, who struck the student in the face before taking his phone and leaving the scene in a two-door black Honda Civic with a temporary tag. The student had minor injuries.

Anyone with information should contact Newark Police at 366-7110, ext. 457, or call Delaware Crimestoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.

In unrelated Dec. 7 incidents not involving students but occurring on Madison Drive near the campus, Newark Police reported that, at 1:30 a.m., an attempted robbery occurred when a young man was approached by a man with a knife who demanded money, and, around 8:30 p.m., a food delivery person was robbed by three men after making a delivery. Both incidents are under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact Newark Police.
