Newark Police arrest man for recent thefts in Newark

2:04 p.m., June 1, 2004--Newark Police arrested Jerome K. Jackson of New Castle, Del., on Friday, May 28, and charged him for several burglaries that have taken place at various apartment complexes in Newark over the past several weeks.

The burglaries occurred at the University Courtyard, Ivy Hall and Victoria Court apartment complexes. Jackson would enter unlocked front doors and remove property. On several occasions, he was confronted by a resident when he entered the apartment. He would quickly explain that he was looking for someone he thought lived in that apartment and leave without confrontation.

On May 28, police received a burglary report at University Courtyard Apartments and later located the suspect’s vehicle at Ivy Hall Apartments. There, they encountered Jackson and apprehended him after a brief foot chase. Detectives searched Jackson’s car and home and recovered a large amount of stolen property.

He was arraigned in J.P. Court #20 for resisting arrest, six counts of second degree burglary, five counts of attempted burglary and 10 counts of theft and committed to Howard Young Correctional Institution, in default of $38,500 secured bond.
