Two arrested for attempted robbery of students 3:33 p.m., April 12, 2004--Newark Police have arrested two men for an attempted strong-arm robbery of two UD students that occurred around 2:15 a.m., Sunday, April 11, on East Main Street. The two students were assaulted and one had his wallet taken during the incident. One student received a bloody lip and refused medical treatment. The second student received numerous abrasions from being struck in the face and was taken by ambulance to Christiana Emergency Room for treatment. Witnesses from a nearby business saw the two suspects get into a dark-colored Chevrolet Blazer and drive west on Main Street. They provided license plate information to police, and a general broadcast was issued to Newark and University officers. At approximately 2:27 a.m., the vehicle was located and stopped by a University Police officer on Delaware Avenue. The driver, Jason Perdue, 24, of the 800 block of Wharton Drive, Newark, was charged with first degree attempted robbery, conspiracy and assault, and the passenger, Joseph Constantino, 21, of the 100 block of Richards Drive, Wilmington, was charged with first degree attempted robbery and conspiracy. Both were arraigned through JP Court #20. Members of the University community are reminded to take safety precautions and always be aware of their surroundings.
