Newark Police investigate attempted kidnapping

11:02 a.m., March 1, 2004--Newark Police are investigating the attempted kidnapping of a 20-year-old UD student that occurred around 1:25 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 29, in the 700 block of Wollaston Avenue.

The student was walking from a party on Academy Street when she was confronted by a man who got out of a boxy, dark color, four-door car that she believed had been following her. He grabbed her arms as the car, which had three other men in it, pulled alongside them. The student kicked the suspect in the groin, punched him in the face and fled on foot. She hid in some bushes until the man got back into the car and it sped away. The student was not injured.

There is no evidence to link this crime to the abduction of a UD student that happened last May.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Newark Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 366-7120 or Delaware Crimestoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
