UD offers online course on hospitality data security

2:09 p.m., June 4, 2004--The University of Delaware’s Division of Professional and Continuing Studies is offering a new online course on data security and confidentiality in hospitality operations from June 14 to July 23.

The course, "Assured Security for Hospitality Operations,” which is offered in conjunction with UD’s Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management and HFTP (Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals), addresses security measures against various threats, including intrusion detection and anti-virus systems.

The course, part of the Hospitality E-Commerce Certificate, is offered entirely online by UD Online, the University’s distance learning program. Internet access is required.

UD is a national leader in distance learning, with many awards recognizing its "electronic campus," which includes online library resources and textbook ordering via the Internet.

The course instructor, Dorian Cougias, is president of Network Frontiers, a company that focuses on disaster recovery, security and information technology infrastructure. He served as the CIO of two leading advertising agencies.

Cougias, an expert in the world of disaster recovery planning, authored the award-winning “The Backup Book: Disaster Recovery from Desktop to Data Center.”
