Janis Ian concert set May 19
Both celebrated and decried for her unabashed handling of taboo subjects, Ian first rose to fame in the mid 60s for her hit song Society's Child, a meditation on race relations that made her an overnight sensation. Now established as a musician known for her distinctive voice and well-crafted songs, Ian recently released Billies Bones, a compilation of recent compositions that blend folk, jazz and blues. Her May 19 concert will feature many songs from this release, as well as a variety of older material. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Bob Carpenter Center and Trabant University Center box offices, as well as online through Ticketmaster, where a convenience charge may apply. Advance tickets are $10 for UD students, $14 for UD employees and $18 for all others. Tickets purchased at the door are $12 for UD students, $17 for UD employees and $22 for all others. The concert is cosponsored by the Office of Womens Affairs, Students Acting for Gender Equality, Haven and Listening Post Productions.
