Committee plans events for MBA Program's 50th year
4:15 p.m., Oct. 2, 2003--U.S. Sen. Thomas R. Carper has been named honorary chairperson of a committee that is planning a series of events to mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Delawares MBA program. Activities celebrating the milestone are being held throughout the 2003-04 academic year.
Carper, a Delaware Democrat, earned his masters degree in business administration from UD in 1975. The MBA program, which began in 1953 and awarded its first degree in June 1955, is offered by the Universitys Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.
With more than 2,600 MBA graduates throughout the world, University of Delaware MBA alumni have contributed to the success of organizations and communities in many outstanding ways. Throughout the academic year, the Lerner College will recognize and announce the special accomplishments of a select groupthe Fabulous 50 MBA alumni.
Since 1982, the Delaware MBA program has been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business: AACSB International. The business college was named in 2003 in memory of former MBNA chairman and CEO Alfred Lerner.
The vice chairpersons of the MBA 50th Anniversary Advisory Committee are Holly E. Flanagan (MBA Class of 2001), director for business development at Juniper Bank, and Mark A. Oller (1994), vice president and managing director at Wilmington Trust.
Alumni also serving on the committee include: the Universitys first MBA recipient, Robert L. Johnson (1955), vice president, Strategies Unlimited; Frederick C. Sears II (1971), president and CEO, Delaware Community Foundation; Robert B. Barker (1965), director of corporate relations for the Lerner College; Col. Ernest G. Talbert Jr. (1983), wing commander, Delaware National Guard; Dennis G. Sheehy (1984), managing partner for technology solutions, Deloitte Consulting; Jill M. Connell (1999), director of supply chain management, Endo Pharmaceuticals; Mark A. McFarland (1996), Exelon Power Team; Gloria Z. Diodato (1996), assistant dean of the Lerner College; Dianne P. Leipold (1997), business segment leader, J.M. Huber; Kathy O. Gathagan ((2000), consultant, Ajilon Consulting/Bank One; W. Craig Marvel (2001), executive vice president, MBNA America; and Matthew C. Minker (2002), president, Minker Properties.
