500 years of book design celebrated May 5 5:17 p.m., May 3, 2004--Tours, a letterpress exhibit and a hands-on typesetting session are just some of the activities planned for UDs Day of the Book celebration set for Wednesday, May 5. Starting at 9 a.m. and running until 4 p.m., the day will offer guided tours of Raven Press, (UDs letterpress facility in the Visual Communications Group in the Department of Fine Arts and Visual Communications) a close-up look at important books and book forms in the Morris Library collection and a tour of the Winterthur Library and current exhibition Five Centuries of Design and Inspiration. A lecture at Winterthur by Shelley Sturman, objects conservator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., will cap the days festivities. (Transportation to and from Winterthur is provided.)
