Hundreds of free music CDs at Mallstock May 8

11:26 a.m., May 6, 2004--Hundreds of free music CDs will be given away during this year’s Mallstock, from 2-7 p.m., Saturday, May 8, on the North Green.

“Our theme is ‘Wild Wild West’ and the day should be a kickin' good time!” Giovanna Citti, special projects co-chair of the Resident Students Association, which runs the outdoor festival, said. “It’s going to be awesome.”

The event will feature Sheriff YoUDee, who will be promoting the Code of the Web and how downloading music affects the musicians, Citti said.

The music CD contains a collection of music selected by students and freely available on the web. UD obtained permission from the artists and pressed 500 CDs of the songs, Leila Lyons, director of Information Technologies--User Services, said.

“By doing this we hope that students will learn about some legal avenues for obtaining music so that they do not have to resort to downloading copyrighted music and sharing it, which is illegal,” Lyons said.

Besides CDs, free yo-yos and boomerangs will be given out, and red and navy T-shirts will be on sale for $3.

The free public event will feature entertainment by DJ Amaze and live music performances by Omnisoul, Mad Sweet Pangs, Marlon Spike, Alan Astor and SoleCraft.
