Register now for Nov. 19 CAA blood drive at Trabant
5 p.m., Nov. 13, 2003--UD is well on its way to repeating its first-place finish in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Have a Heart Blood Challenge. After setting the mark in last years competition with 374 donors, the stage is set for another strong showing, with nearly 100 persons already signed up for this years blood drive, scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.
The Have a Heart Blood Challenge is a one-day competition among the 10 Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) schools to see which school can recruit the most blood donors.
Its easy to get involved. Just call the Blood Bank at 1-888-825-6638 to make an appointment. And, walk-ins also are welcome. The public also is encouraged to participate.
This year, more than 40 representatives from the Blood Bank of Delaware/Eastern Shore (BBDES), including phlebotomists, receptionists, processors and supervisors, will be on hand from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., to handle the anticipated record number of donors.
One blood donation can save up to three lives, Shay Robb, BBDES school program and blood drive coordinator, said. This is a great way to support a great cause and help UD win two years in a row.
In southern Delaware, fans, alumni and friends of UD also can make an appointment by calling (302) 737-8400.
Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and have had no tattoos or body piercings in the past 12 months. Donors should remember to eat a good meal within three hours of donating.
Sponsors include the Resident Student Association, HOLA (Hispanic Organization for Latino Americans) and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
