3:35 p.m., July 16, 2003--Patrice Draminski Back, captain of the 1991-92 University of Delaware women’s swimming and diving team, has been named head coach at Binghamton University.

Back will lead the men’s and women’s swimming and diving program at Binghamton, an NCAA Division I school which competes in the America East Conference.

She had been assistant coach of the Bearcats for five years, working with head coach Benji DeMotte, who left for a position as assistant coach at the University of Arkansas.

“While we’re sad that Benji is leaving, we have absolute confidence in Patrice’s ability to take over,” Binghamton Athletic Director Joel Thirer said. “She has had a high-profile position here for five years, and is a poised coach who carries herself with dignity. The program is in very good hands.”

“I am very excited to be stepping up into this position,” Back said. “Having worked with this program for five years, I am confident that we will continue to be successful.”

“This will be a smooth transition for Binghamton,” DeMotte said. “Patrice has worked as a partner with me in building up this program. Any team honor we have gotten over the years has had a lot to do with her.”

Back graduated from UD in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She earned a master’s degree in physical education in 1998. Before joining the staff at Binghamton, Back served as an assistant coach at Delaware for two years.
