Fleda Brown poetry reading set April 21 in Dover

Fleda Brown was named Delaware’s poet laureate in 2002.
3:35 p.m., April 14, 2004--Fleda Brown, UD professor of English and poet laureate for the state of Delaware, will be among a group of poets participating in “Art and Poetry,” at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, at the Biggs Museum of American Art, 406 Federal St., in Dover.

The free public event offers an opportunity for visitors to explore the galleries while Brown and fellow poets read new poems they have written about objects in the museum.

The author of four collections of poetry, Brown has won many awards, including the Philip Levine Prize, Anhinga Press, 2002, for “Breathing In, Breathing Out,” the 2001 Porter Fund Literary Prize for poetry and the Kesstrel Writing Award for her “Graceland” poetry series.

Her other books of poetry include “Fishing with Blood” (1988), “Do Not Peel the Birches,” (1993) and “The Devil’s Child” (1999). Brown also has a limited edition book of poems and images, “The Eleusinian Mysteries MS,” with Norman Sasowsky (1992) and a chapbook “The Earliest House” (1993). She was named Delaware’s poet laureate in 2002.
