UD Bookstore revamps textbook pricing, ordering

8 a.m., Feb. 10, 2004--UD students returning to campus for spring semester are being greeted by a late holiday treat in the form of less expensive textbooks and more flexible ordering procedures at the University Bookstore, which went into effect Monday, Jan. 5.

The lower pricing and more flexible ordering procedures now in place provide students with a number of purchasing options not offered by competitors.

For instance, there is no minimum order required—students can order books one at a time. Additionally, students who register late for a course can still order the textbook, because the UD Bookstore no longer has a cutoff date for textbook orders.

Students also can do their purchasing conveniently by e-mail via the Bookstore’s 24/7 web site. The site, which allows students to search for their needed textbooks by course name or number, also takes the guesswork out of budgeting because all prices are clearly listed.

For those texts not readily in stock, the UD Bookstore has established a “Just Ask Us” policy, which means staffers will further search for books by accessing publishers’ and distributors’ computerized databases.

Besides being assured of lower prices and the best selection of textbooks for UD courses, students who sell back their used books at the UD Bookstore are guaranteed, on average, the highest buyback prices at the end of the semester.

“We are working to maximize the benefits of shopping at the University Bookstore while minimizing the hassles some students have faced when purchasing textbooks,” Cosmo Olivieri, general manager, said. “Students have voiced concerns, and we have listened.”
