CAA baseball tournament pits Hens against GMU The Fightin Blue Hens finished the regular season with a record of 30-22 overall and 12-11 in the CAA. UD will be the No. 6 seed in the six-team double-elimination tournament, which will begin Wednesday, May 26, at Brooks Field on the campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA championship playoffs. The Hens will open the tournament against top-seeded George Mason at noon, Wednesday. Host UNC Wilmington, the No. 2 seed, will take on No. 5 Old Dominion, and No. 3 Virginia Commonwealth will play No. 4 William and Mary. Action will resume at noon, Thursday, when the loser of the game between UD and George Mason will face the loser of the game between UNC Wilmington and Old Dominion. After that game, the winner of the game between UD and George Mason will meet the loser of the game between Virginia Commonwealth and William and Mary. In the evening, the winner of the game between Virginia Commonwealth and William and Mary will meet the winner of the game between UNC Wilmington and Old Dominion. Match-ups for the final two days won't be determined until after Thursday's action. For adults, tournament passes cost $20 and a single day pass costs $10. In weekend action at Bob Hannah Stadium, the Hens lost 4-2 to Virginia Commonwealth on Friday but came to life in two high-scoring wins on Saturday and Sunday. UD won 16-2 on Saturday and 15-5 on Sunday. On Sunday, first baseman Steve Van Note had a big game, with three hits, two runs scored and five runs batted in. Brian Valichka and Bryan Hagerich hit home runs for the Hens. Van Note and shortstop Todd Davison led the way in Saturdays victory.
