Lunch series continues with string music

Soprano Nicole Aldrich Clouser, accompanied by Betsy Kent, opens the spring Bach’s Lunch Series March 10.
7:47 a.m., March 17, 2004--The Bach’s Lunch Series continues this week with a performance by UD students from the studio of Xiang Gao, assistant professor of music who teaches violin and viola, from 12:10-12:50 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, in Bayard Sharp Hall, located at the corner of West Delaware Avenue and Elkton Road.

This free public series features a variety of instruments, performers and musical genres on select Wednesdays throughout the semester.

The next program in the series on March 31 will feature works of Bach—both Johann Sebastian and his zany 20th-century doppelganger P.D.Q. Bach (a.k.a. Peter Schickele). Performing will be Julie Nishimura, faculty accompanist, and David Herman, University organist and professor of music.

UD alumna Marybeth K. Miller and soprano and accompanist Nicole Aldrich Clouser, will perform a program of folk songs from the British Isles on April 14.

UD alumnus David Villanueva will showcase works by Albéniz, Bach, Chopin and Scriabin in a piano recital on the Bayard Sharp Steinway on April 21.

The “‘Winds’ of Spring” three-concert mini-series will open with a performance by Del’Arte, UD’s acclaimed faculty woodwind quartet, on April 28.

“Flutes and Friends,” a concert performed by UD flute students under the direction of Eileen Grycky, UD assistant professor of music, is set for May 5.

“Horns Aplenty!,” a concert featuring UD horn students directed by Cynthia Carr, UD professor of music, will cap the mini-series on May 12.

The annual “Festival of Students,” a parade of students representing all areas of UD’s Department of Music, will provide the grand finale for the spring Bach’s Lunch Series on May 19.

For more information on the series, call David Herman at 831-2577.
