On American Slavery lecture at Blue & Gold Club Oct. 17
The 3:30 p.m. lecture, which will be held at the Blue & Gold Club Tavern, coincides with Kolchins re-release and revision of his 1993 book, American Slavery: 1619-1877. His talk will focus on slavery in the United States and the American publics shifting perception of slavery since the Civil War. Kolchin, who also published the books A Sphinx on the American Land: The 19th-Century South in Comparative Perspective and Unfree Labor: American Slavery and Russian Serfdom, was the 2002 recipient of the Francis Alison Award, the Universitys highest faculty honor. The free lecture, which is open to the public, will conclude at 4:30 p.m. and will be followed by an optional reception and dinner in the Blue & Gold Club. No reservations are required.
